Idaho Lotteries

The following is a quote from the Idaho Lottery Official Web Site.

"In 1986 by initiative, the people of Idaho voted on the Lottery issue for the first time. The initiative resulted in a 60 to 40 percent "yes" margin, but was later declared unconstitutional by the Idaho Supreme Court. The Court prohibited the amending of the Idaho Constitution by initiative. However, in 1988 the Idaho Legislature authorized a vote by the electorate of Idaho in the upcoming general election. In November 1988, the Idaho Lottery act became law when 51% of Idaho voters approved a constitutional amendment repealing the constitutional ban on lotteries.

The Idaho Lottery and its statute were originally modeled after the Oregon Lottery. There is, however, a primary difference between the lotteries: Idaho is a traditional lottery and has no plans to expand to games that do not represent a traditional lottery.

The Idaho Lottery set a new industry record by implementing a lottery within 200 days. The first Idaho Lottery ticket was sold on July 19, 1989. On that first day of sales, players purchased more than 840,000 tickets throughout Idaho. That first year resulted in $65 million in sales and the first dividend check of $17,225,000 was given to the "People of the State of Idaho." That was a good sign of things to come."

Idaho Lottery Searching for $2.78 Million Wild Card Winner,

Winning Ticket Sold in Pocatello

Boise - The search is on for the person holding the $2.78 million winning ticket from the Idaho Lottery’s Wild Card draw last Saturday night.  Lottery Officials confirmed today the winning ticket was sold in Pocatello.  The winning numbers from Saturday night’s draw were 02, 15, 18, 19, 26 and the Wild Card was the ace of spades.

“To ensure the integrity of our game, to protect our players and our retailers, we will not be releasing the winning store location prior to the winner presenting their ticket for payment,” stated Jeff Anderson, Idaho Lottery Director.

The Idaho Lottery has received no phone calls from any player claiming to hold the winning ticket or making inquiries about the ticket.

“With the Fourth of July holiday and many people traveling, it is possible the winner has no idea they are holding a ticket worth close to $3 million,” added Anderson. “We are encouraging our players in the Pocatello area to carefully check their tickets from last Saturday night’s draw.”

The winner has until approximately December 27, 2008 to claim their prize from Lottery Headquarters in Boise. Also, as a state agency, the Idaho Lottery offices will be closed on Wednesday to celebrate the Fourth of July.

All players are also encouraged to sign their tickets prior to submitting them for payment. Inquiries regarding the winning ticket can be made by calling 1-208-336-2400 or by e-mailing the Lottery at info@idaholottery.com.
