Mundelein, Ill Woman Wins Illinois Lottery Prize

             SPRINGFIELD, IL – June 6 – Marguerite Plath of Mundelein knows what the statement "Players Have More Fun" truly means. After purchasing an Illinois Lottery “Crossword” instant scratch-off ticket, she won $40,000.

             Plath, an HR Generalist at Lake Forest Hospital for the past 29 years, says she purchases Illinois Lottery tickets every week.

             Plath uses both anniversary and birth dates when choosing her numbers to play. She said she was “shocked and started crying” after scratching off her ticket and realizing how much she had won.

             Plath has been lucky with the Illinois Lottery before - in 2002 she won $2,600 on the Illinois Lottery “Pick 4” game.

             Plath has been married to her husband, Dennis, for the past 20 years, and has two children. She plans to use her winnings to pay bills.

             Crossword tickets cost $3 each. Of the top $40,000 prizes in this game, three remain unclaimed.

             A one percent bonus will be given to Quick Mart, 1428 S. Butterfield Rd. in Mundelein, the Illinois Lottery retailer who sold the winning ticket.

             The Illinois Lottery was founded in 1974 and has annual sales of nearly $1.6 billion. During Fiscal Year 2002, lottery sales topped $1.59 billion, an increase of more than $140 million over FY 01 sales. A lottery profit of $555
