Where does the Money Go?

The South Dakota Lottery's instant, lotto and video lottery games have generated over $977 million for state projects and programs (through Fiscal Year 2002).

Scratch games have raised nearly $53 million for the state since their introduction 13 years ago. Those proceeds have been directed to the state's General Fund, which finances programs like health, human and social service projects, and K-12, university and technical school education.

The state's Video Lottery games, which started in 1989, have generated over $885 million for the state. For the first six years, the state's share of video lottery was deposited into the state's general fund. Since 1995, video lottery proceeds have been dedicated to the Property Tax Reduction Fund, to help lower taxes on all property classified as agricultural and single family/owner-occupied.

Lotto games, introduced in 1990, have raised nearly 40 million for state projects, mostly through the Capital Construction Fund. Currently this fund finances water development projects, ethanol production incentives and public and special transportation
