Mega MillionsWashington State LotteriesThe following information is directly quoted from the Washington State Lottery Official Web Site. Where the Lottery $ GoesFor 20 years, The Washington Lottery has provided fun and entertaining games
that make everyone in Washington richer. Whether you play to win millions with
Mega Millions and Lotto Plus, a lifetime of good fortune playing Lucky for Life,
or enjoy the instant fun of Scratch, you’re a winner. Playing Lottery games is
only one way to win in Washington. Since the Lottery sold its first “Pot O’
Gold” Scratch ticket on November 15, 1982, it has paid more than $3.5 billion in
prizes, and nearly $2 billion to fund state education, human services, natural
resources programs, and more. Each year, the Lottery has generated revenues for
Washington state while providing high standards of quality, service, value, and
integrity. In Washington-Everybody Wins! The greatest share of Lottery proceeds is returned to the state and its
residents in three ways–as prizes, as retailer commissions, and as transfers to
the state’s Student Achievement Fund, Education Construction Fund, and General
Fund. Lottery Goes Back to SchoolBeginning July 1, 2001, the Lottery went back to school in a special way. As
part of a larger funding package determined by voter approval of Initiative 728,
all Lottery dollars previously transferred to the State General Fund from the
sale of Lotto Plus, Lucky for Life, Scratch, The Daily Game, and
Daily Keno now go directly to education through the Student Achievement
and Education Construction funds. With the addition of Mega Millions in
Washington, Lottery funds for education are expected to reach more than $100
million per year, with remaining revenues transferred to stadium commitments and
the State General Fund.
